This 4-week series will focus on a grounding, and empowering build to Headstand (Sirsasana A).
The focus of this series on the journey to Headstand, versus the destination, will be accompanied by the wisdom of the Advaita Vedanta philosophy, as written in the Astavakrā Samhitā, one of the most studied texts of Hathayoga.
The Advaita Vedanta philosophy invites us to explore our oneness with the Universe. We will use this teaching to explore how we encounter reflections of ourselves in postures and off the mat, our dharma, or interconnectedness with each other, and how we manifest and choose liberation for ourselves, and in turn, for the broader collective.
This progressive series is designed to guide students to headstand as a complete practice through the exploration of ritual in breath and movement, core strength and awareness, and shoulder stability and strengthening.
Classes will consist of a mix of flowing Namaskars (salutations) and sequences, as well as time spent workshopping the various expressions and pathways to Headstand.
The first week of this series will focus on spinal alignment and Kapalabhati Pranayama (Skull Shining Breath), which will be carried through the rest of the series as a foundation.
This series is designed for all levels, but highly recommended for those with an existing, current practice (strong beginners, intermediate into advanced). Props are not required, but are most welcome, Feel free to be creative with any other supportive props you may need, and have a journal handy.
Classes will be livestreamed on Zoom on Tuesdays, and Fridays from 7:30am - 8:30am, EDT.
All class replays will be made available to revisit for up to 7 days.
